Cross section: Variables

Variables can be used to define a variation of cross sections. If variables are used when defining the cross section, formulas and tables allow to modify these variables for the export to RM.

Constant values are assigned to variables in the original cross section definition (such as h=3.5). These values can be changed to mathematical expressions or table items using the "Calculator".

SettingDescription
Variable types

RM Bridge Modeler handles 3 types of variables:

Note: The variable types have to be used correctly when applying them to a constr .line. Variables without dimension and constants can always be used.
Constants

The edit box for variables at the top of the cross section window can be used to define constants directly.

edit box for variables

This edit box allows the input of a constant value (e.g. 2.34) or a variable. The variables have to be selected in the variable list.

Variable list

The variable list is opened by clicking the arrow symbol next to edit box for variables.

Insert a variables

New variables can be inserted in the active list by using the symbols

Insert before" or "Insert after" at the left vertical symbol column. The variables are sorted by name. Hence, both symbols have the same meaning.

Modify a variable

A selected variable can be modified using the Modify tool. A input window for entering the needed parameters is offered.

Delete a variable

A selected variable can be deleted using the Delete tool. The selection must be confirmed.

Activate a variable

A variable selected in the list can be activated by OK. Then, it will be shown in the edit box of variables in the cross section window.
